QUEZON CITY – The Institute for Labor Studies (ILS), in partnership with the Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS) – Socioeconomic Research Portal of the Philippines (SERP-P) and Mapúa University, will hold this year’s Trabahong Trending, an annual ILS research colloquium for students and members of the academe, in support of the 2025 Development Policy Research Month (DPRM).
Now on its latest run, Trabahong Trending carries the theme: “Shaping Tomorrow’s Workforce: Preparing the Youth for AI, Green Jobs, and Emerging Labor Trends.” The event will spotlight ILS research on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Green Jobs—two critical areas transforming the future of work. By engaging students and young labor market entrants, the activity seeks to raise awareness on how technological innovation and the global shift toward sustainability are reshaping employment opportunities and skills requirements.
The event will be conducted on 02 October 2025 at Audio-Visual Room 2, Mapúa University, Intramuros, Manila, featuring presentations from ILS researchers and the Department of Labor and Employment – Bureau of Local Employment (DOLE-BLE).
Every September, the nation observes DPRM pursuant to Proclamation No. 247 (s. 2002), led by PIDS. The month-long celebration underscores the importance of evidence-based research in policymaking and fosters dialogue on key development issues.
This year’s DPRM theme, “Reimagining Governance in the Age of AI,” highlights the urgent need for adaptive, responsive, and inclusive governance systems in the context of rapid advances in artificial intelligence. It also draws attention to both the potential and risks of AI, including efficiency gains, algorithmic bias, workforce displacement, and inequality.
This marks the first collaboration between ILS and PIDS-SERP-P in line with the DPRM celebration, strengthening efforts to connect research with the next generation of the Filipino workforce.
